Paste in edit mode blender

Cut+Paste: In Edit mode, Separate by selecting vertexes, press P, select “Selected”, move where you like. Many thanks. I am sure as I work through all the tutorials things like this should all become clearer. I have a different behaviour here for copy and paste in edit mode. In Bforartists when i copy a geometry and paste it, then it creates a second object. This object can be manipulated separately then. In Blender when i try to paste, then i get a popup with various tools. It does not create a new geometry. The paste fails. Question is, what is normal behaviour here? You can invoke copy and paste using the Spacebar menu (it shows CtrlV as shortcut for paste, but as you said that doesn't work). Simply press Space and search for copy and paste and use the appropriate entries from the list.. As pointed out by GiantCowFilms, the copy / paste functions work at object level.
